I remember reading somewhere that if it isn't saved, they might scrap the thing. That building/lab is a piece of history that people don't appreciate as much as they should...

Writing in would be of help, but unless a bunch of people get together and raise interest, capital, and enough faith to get a loan to buy and run the place, it doesn't look terribly good.

That land should be preserved, that can be inspirational to many students. I don't blame the owner but the govt should come forward, buy the land and mark it as historic. :)

'The government should...', deja vu.

If the land has tangible historic value to individuals concerned with Tesla's history, then they are free buy the land and do what they wish with it. If nobody steps forward, then who are we kidding to say 'the government should'?

well you have a point there too but well if not buying it
at least the govt should interfere, coz the modern facilities present today are a gift of that great person
and that place reminds us of his achievements and also serves as an inspirational place for many people

without hurting or offending any feelings
My views that the leaders we elected should come forward and lead us in the right direction.

and yes my views can be wrong too. cheesey

I'm not sure I see the point. There isn't any of Tesla's equipment left there, it was all liquidated by his mortgage lenders when he defaulted on the loan. The actual radio tower was dynamited and sold for scrap in 19-something-teen, and the building is empty apart from four mysterious metal tanks. Plus, there's already a Tesla museum in Eastern Europe, and they have a lot of his equipment and papers.

Well, Steve, there is the fact that Wardenclyffe is said to house 'secret tunnels', some of which may lead down to the underground portion of the coil that was planned. I'm not going to get into all the pseudoscience, but I am going to state it as a possibility; wouldn't it be nice if it were true?

Perhaps things have slid under floor boards; perhaps Tesla hid things in places nobody would look, and they're still there, waiting to be found. The entire place should be taken apart and then put back the way it is, if for no reason other than to make sure there's nothing he wanted us to find or that he left for himself to find in his later years.

Why doesn't somebody open up one of those tanks? Perhaps they are filled with gold that J.P. Morgan stashed there... But, seriously, maybe the tanks are made to be capacitors. I would love to tour the place.

The tunnels were filled in with the toxic waste that AGFA and the previous owner dumped down there. It wouldn't be a nice
job (or cheap) to clear those tunnels out. Still, the building itself has architectural heritage, and the site is historical for many people.
Perhaps somone could buy it, recreate the tower and hold Teslathons there. :)

It's tempting to think that way, but would you really expect Tesla to stash anything of interest in a building that he was, by all accounts, kicked out of?

The entire site has been badly contaminated with toxic waste. I wouldn't be surprised if the tanks contained yet more toxic sludge that nobody wants to deal with. I agree that it would be nice to see the site restored, but doing so is going to require $1.6 million to purchase the site, probably at least that amount over again to clean up all the waste, and then even more to actually renovate the place and restore it to its former glory. Does Tesla have a lot of fans? Sure. Could they collectively raise $10m, and then $1m or so every year to keep the site maintained, staffed, and open to the public? Seems doubtful, especially considering that he has already been memorialized elsewhere.

I think we should negotiate to around 0.75X their asking price, if anything, and then pay to get it treated chemically to clean up all the mess. After that, we could ask volunteers to help to renovate it, even down to every last brick. The cost of doing so would be in the tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars, even with volunteer help, and would probably take over a years time. It would be slow and expensive, but it could be done.

I think it would be a worth-while investment, but I'm fifteen years old - what do I know?
