Yes it`s voltage and high speed match but the current does not match, can I parrallel two of them?

Edit: Is there in Uzzors boost converter only three pins used in comparator?

Edit: Yes, I found the answer, 5 pins.

Thanks to Uzzors for his very good boost converter circuit!
It charged 150J cap bank about 6s that makes 25W and input was only...28W!!!,effiency was 90%, I just made a very little fix in circuit.

That's great, more power and efficiency than I ever got! Did you use the circuit I currently have on my site, and what was the fix? I haven't tested the current circuit yet so it would be nice to hear how it actually works.

I took the circuit from your "updated site" and I only changed a few parts, check out my website for more info wink .

TO AhZZ:

Hello there Dude, I'm just new here. And I still on the process of learning all about electronics and H.V. stuffs. I just got a few questions your old and new schematics about your Boost Converters. Can I use a power MOSFETs like (IRFP450 - rated @ 500v, 14A)? and a diode rated for 500v 14A? as an alternative for the IGBT and the rectifier diode? What was D1 in your schematics maybe you forgot to indicate what was its rating or its part no.? and about R6 is it a variable resistor? or can just an ordinary 10k resistor also works?

Thanks........0(^_^)0

By the way you can also reply me in my fake or throw away E-mail add: **link**

Wow, surprised to see this actually got some attention.

Well, I never got around to finishing my coilgun project, and haven't touched electronics for about two years now... however, to answer your questions KITKAT, d1 was just some puny random rectifier, nothing special. R6 was a variable resistor, used to tweak the voltage that the charger stopped at. As far as the MOSFET question, I really have no idea. I'm not exactly sure why I chose an IGBT in the first place, nor do I know the main differences between the newer generation of transistors.....sorry.

It's been about two years since I've looked at this page, but I am having another problem with this circuit. I still have/use my board and until recently it's worked wonderfully.

Something happened to it while I was making a new coilgun. I'm not quite sure what, but after replacing the 555 timer it started switching again. For some reason the MOSFET I used burned out too, so I tried replacing it with a SGL160N60UFDTU IGBT that I had. Since then I've burned out two of them and melted some traces on my board. Before the first one burned out and melted the traces my capacitor bank charged to 230V.

The 555 timer is switching, I checked with my oscilloscope.

The only thing I've changed from when the board worked to now is I am using a much bigger battery, I was using AAs before. The voltage is about the same, but the output current can get much larger. I also switched the capacitor bank to a larger one.

I should also mention that the IGBTs are getting really hot before the 555 starts switching which make no sense to me. With the IGBT removed nothing overheats or shorts.

Any ideas why I am toasting IGBTs? Do I need a different kind? Is the new battery allowing to much current to flow?

Thanks,
Justin
