Well since it will be using batteries there isnt any problem with having two separate floating supplies. I looked at the link to the flyback converter but I didnt really see any info on how to build one. Right now I dont have a lab or any workspace really, most all my stuff is boxed up and in storage... hopefully will be moving within a year to a bigger house out in the country with a shop and some land, but right now I'd have to setup shop on the tailgate of my truck in the driveway so I am trying to do something I dont have to tinker with and experiment since I just dont have the time or space. I'm trying to find a design thats fairly simple with parts I can order and put together in a few minutes.

aahz's original design claims 83% efficiency which seems pretty good. And the later revision states 235J/12 seconds... not to shabby for a little charger.

Let me evaluate aahz's design for the +3kJ bank I have right now, even though I'd probably only uses it on the smaller banks but just for the sake of comparison lets take a look.

On my current bank which is 12x 9100uF 250V caps arranged in 4 series banks of 3 caps in parallel (~7000uF @ 1kV). With two of these chargers running in series for 900V then it would take approximately 140 seconds for max charge (2764J). Not too bad for a little charger. And most of my experimenting so far isnt even at 50% charge, which would be ~1 minute charge time. Yeah, ideally I'd like to shorten that some. But I have a smaller bank I'll be experimenting with too, consisting of just two caps in series, two Rifa 3300uF 450V caps so two of the chargers should charge to full in 17 seconds.

Tell me about having most stuff boxed up and hoping for a bigger place where you can set up shop properly... smile

Anyway if simplicity is what you are looking for I may just have the suggestion for you. Try a blocking oscillator - that's really as simple as it gets. If you use the schematic from the "Joule Thief", you get away with a _single_ resistor and transistor. Probably works perfectly with the transformer out of a dead ATX power supply. I have just be playing around with it yesterday, and it really is super simple to get working.

Well, aahz's design is simple enough, I dont need to be overly simple just a sure working design with known parts that can be ordered. I just want to get something wired up I know will work. I want to be flinging aluminum into the air not pulling my hair out burning up transistors and winding flybacks. I went ahead and ordered all the parts for two and I'll experiment running two of these chargers together once I get it built. Then later I can always build a better charger.

I have one problem, I`m making Uzzors boost converter but one part is that I dont have, inductor or is there any ways to make 130uH inductor?

Yes! I finally found an inductor to the Uzzors boost converter, but does it matter if it is 158uH ?:

I don't think it will do so much difference.

You might try to calculate it through Uzzors's spreadsheet.

Is in Uzzors boost converter that capacitor really 10nF?

There are three capacitors:

Value:
1nF
10nF
Unknown electrolytic capacitor

OK, and that "Unknown electrolytic capacitor" is the cap bank...and few question yet, there is rectifier diode in Uzzors schematic and there reads "500V 15A" , so can this diode handle it: BYV29-500? Thanks!

If BYV29-500 is high speed, and matches the current and voltage. Yes you can use that.
