Planning to built this SSTC, but having some doubt on exact components usage. Diodes D1 and D2 are Germanium glass diodes 1N60, can these be replaced with silicon based diodes like 1N4148 ?

The diodes needs only to be fast enough to clamp the voltage at input... The Germanium Diodes have less voltage drop. So is more safe using then... And usually have higher frequency rate than normal sillicon ones. But I never have used Germanium diodes in my entire life =P

Same boat over here. Anyway, will try to locate some cheapo 1N60 to try out. I wonder whether the same antenna feedback circuit topology would work on flyback transformer or ignition coil... any ideas ?

Can I use a 1n4148 to be the demodulator of a crystal radio? The circuits on the internet usually tell me to use 2AP9,OA70,etc.But I can't find them.
I don't think that the 1N4148 is good for demodulating crystal radios. The 1N4148 is not a germanium diode and has a higher voltage drop (and I think reverse recovery time). Germanium diodes like the 1N34A are more expensive than the diodes like the 1N4148.

I have always used 1n4148's, but i wonder if clamping would be better with the germanium diodes? LEss voltage drop is definitely good. Also, low leakage current is nice, unless both diodes have the exact same leakage current, which no two do.
I shouldn't be expressing my opinions, but this sstc might be better. The only real difference is it uses and interrupter, a class E shunt capacitor, and a voltage doubler. You could use the TC4420 instead of the UCC, i think. Just a thought.

Class E sstc's are not something for a beginner to making considering the amount of tuning and adjustments that have to be made to actually have it run in Class E operation. If the poster isn't a beginner though disregard this I guess.
