I'm supposed to put a capacitor between my aerial and logic? Eeee.... **embarrassed**

I guess I've always liked the idea of a tight-knit community.. though I'm not sure I've earned the right to be part of the tight-knit bit yet.

But if I lived in Glasgow and made Steve some hot scones...

/me drinks to 4hv =)
keep it up.

I also love how some of us talk as if we're the most seasoned members ever, and have been around for years...

Next you're going to suggest submitting SAT scores... This isn't a college, it's a forum. If we only let those who have already learned most of what there is about electronics, the forum will turn into a tangle of threads: "omg i built a new drsstc!" "Omg cool!" "yea, nice job" "i don't care, i already built the best biggsted drsstc ever," rather than contributing to the propagation of learning.

Thats rather an antagonistic reply to a thread on how to better the HV community.
Please can you explain how your comment has contributed to the "propogation of learning" in this thread?
Do you post with an answer to a problem, or just to poke a stick at people to see what reaction you get?
Who else am I going to boast about my DRSSTC to? My family? My friends? Or should I post it in a community where people actually understand my elation at this success. And yes, so and so has a bigger/better/faster one. If I hadn't seen the successes of others, would I have made mine?
That's the word, community.

I don't post alot here, but I went through the screening process on the old board, and I've stuck things out. I don't have the spare funds to do much eletronics work, and software work is my specialty, but anytime I can add something to help out, I try to. I have no problem with having the applications. Keeps the riff raft out, and those who genuinely want to learn or share still can join.

As far as things being cliquish, I really don't find that to be the case at all. I've talked with quite a few people from the boards, and never had the feeling that it was uncomfortable, forced, or something along those lines. Unless you count people who have no interest in electronics and science as being out of the "clique"

One system I've seen that worked at other sites, was that after the applications were submitted, they were shown to the public and a formal yay or nay vote was taken by the current members. Then, the moderators took the results of the vote, along with any comments made by the members to help make their final decision. Fairly similar to kinda how things were in the past, but just made use of the polling ability of the forum software. That way, if the mods saw that a large majority voted for or against, it would help bring a quicker and easier decision.

Jim, colleges don't let in people who've already learned everything, either :P Besides, if this is a forum not a college, your other argument sucks. (Why would we give a damn about the propagation of learning if it wasn't a college?)

We welcome people who already know about electronics, as well as people who don't know much but are willing to learn. The only people we (I? am I allowed to say we?) have a problem with are people who just want to troll, and people who don't even have the basic technical knowledge needed to understand any of the posts on the board. The gap is just so wide in that case. How can we help you when you don't even speak the same language?

I guess Hellmark summed up what I'm trying to say:

That is so true.

Remeber the time, when people from the Information Unlimited Board came over? Most of them would just flame and talk nonsence like on their former board. That was gruesome.

"Oh, me wants build tokamak Reaktor to 200 Stage Coilgunz, so rapid fire no????? PLZ HELP!!!!"

How have they contributed?

Requiring a web site would boot me out. I'm too busy right now with earning my degree to do any major projects, let alone keep up an interesting web site. I mostly come here to be the armchair physicist/mathematician between lectures and assignments.

Madgyver has hit it. Go have a look at one of those boards if you want to understand what this is about. There are people there who with straight face (avatar?) hold conversations like, "gah my energy machene burn" - "you need to use teh ion generator" - "thanks now it works". frown

Bear in mind that the last review system proved too much hassle. I'm not sure this one would be much simpler. Keep up the suggestions, though. We need them.

Hazmat I'm in the same boat, where I can't afford to do any projects right now, so if a projects page was made required, it'd have my LCD, and nothing more.

I agree it would just be plain nasty to boot out any existing members that didn't have a website. I wasn't trying to suggest that. sad
