Wouldn't agree Link2 Linas coil is about the same size as mine and I was eventually able to break 2.4 meters running with a 10A variac. Tank cap size doesn't matter much just make sure it's tuned and have a high coupling factor between te coils.

Seems like you have done a nice construction job. Must say very skilled.

Anyways best of luck with your DRSSTC.

Yea, it is all about the limiting factors like tank circuit impedance. Of course, more capacitance means you can use even less primary turns, which means less resistance smile. It all depends on the primary resistance. Coils with higher freq can run a tiny tank cap, but still use few primary turns, and the current would still be the same (provided primary impedance is the same). As long as the tank cap is resonant, which in a primary current feedback drsstc, it always will be, the current will be high. I am just repeating myself now.

OK, i added one string to MMC, also used more turns, and in large room i was able brake 2.4m limit :)
soon i will upload some videos, but not all the sparks you will see in video, so now now waiting for HD night vision cam :)

very nice, I'm quite curious how for you manage to push this coil. Next stop 3 meter?

Still,i have just 5V on current protection ( just in ground sparks can create 8V 1000:1 4,7R ) so maybe larger MMC ?
Yes, now 3m :D
But first, big show for physicist day smile

Yikes watch out for your secondary with all those racing sparks. Might be wise to reduce coupling a bit if you want to push it further. Awesome display of power, well done smile Seeing your coil makes me want to rebuild my own again with a proper MMC tongue and a larger variac . . .

i just need new secondary with good varnish that's it
and those racing sparks are because of polishing failure and wet surface
closer video

Coil was in small room, so i have just 3m safety are, so during this video, when spark expand you can see that people who capture this video started to be afraid shades

The same thing happened to me, then i so Finn Hammer DRSSTC powered from 800V wink
ups, I forgot to mention that when somebody remove ground in test, i blow one BS170 transistor in delay circuit, so my coil was running just with two transistors , so i get just half power output ( like 1m sparks )
IGBT handle it very good ( maybe because i have all protection which can be used in IGBT drivers smile )
