Its important to note that it isn't like the internet is going to grind to a halt tomorrow or anything. Most likely, people who don't know they have it now still won't know tomorrow.

The big deal with the 1st is that the virus will drastically alter how it receives its updates tomorrow, expanding the number of domains it's contacting from 250 to 50,000 making it impossible for ICANN to continue its attempts to block access to the domains the virus is using.

I personally use AVG free. It works really well and really quietly for me. Although, it gets a little annoying when it scans every file that's accessed, by the user or by the system.
I've heard some excellent reports about Kaspersky antivirus

That was my first thought when I saw it, but the fact there was a Conficker A and B, and Microsoft put a quarter million bounty on the creator convinced me.

as far as i know, it silently installs it self and can attach itself to files when they are transfered to other computers, via usb flash drives or external harddrives. or even LAN's. its a pretty bad worm.
