I used to have 2 small cylindric NdFeB magnets that I played with all the time until they smashed themselves to peices. I got cut up pretty bad one time when a stainless steel spoon flew from one of my hands to the other that was holding the magnet and got me right in the skin between my pointer and thumb. They also snapped on my friends shirt one time and ripped a hole in it. Good times... cheesey

Gotta love neos cheesey

I have tons of them, my favorite being my 3/8" cubes; all sorts of uses for them. I use one as the source foe my passive levitator (a piece of graphite with a magnet above it, such that when you place a small magnet on the graphite it floats a few mm), 4 in a 2x2 grid for my other passive levitator (4 magnets with a piece of graphite floating on top), or if I drop a screw in the grass I grab the grid and hold it inside my palm, and run my hand through the grass--works like a charm

It is also fun to drop one down a sheet of aluminum, they don't stick but they move slower than normal because they are fighting the eddie currents in the aluminum formed when they move.

Neos are most excellent :)

I've been playing with them for a few years, I even helped run a website selling them.

My diamagnetic levitation jig uses 6 25mmx6mm neo discs as the lifter magnet.

links to a few images;
Small ring coated with ferrofluid
wok hanging off a 5mmx5mm cylinder
1000+ neos on my fridge , the packet on the floor contains approx 200 10mm cube neos

Drop a neo magnet inside a vertical aluminium or copper tube... watch it genlty float down the tube.

Neos and aluminium are commonly used in roller coaster braking systems.

As previously mentioned tho, take care with neos, they can bite... the bigger the neo the harder the bite and don't put large neos in trouser pockets cry
neos can shatter if slammed together and small shards can be ejected at high speed causing shrapel type wounds

You can find neo magnets in hard drives, modern drives usually have a single smallish magnet the older the drive, the bigger the magnet, some very old (1mb etc) drives have 2 large magnets in them.

Oooo, the thought of it makes me whince. Although I'm sure you could set up a website selling them for that purpose alone.
Reminds me of the time I had a set of keys and a 9V battery in my pocket, sat there having a pint and wondering why my leg was getting burnt.....

You can make decent little alternators with those magnets, for use in wind turbines, etc. Check out some of the designs on Link2 ...or they are also good just for playing about! I've bought loads off eBay, but never put them to any real use cheesey

I have a bunch of these, mostly 1" x 1" cubes - they are fun, but can be dangerous, especially to young children, or even yourself if you're not careful!

Safety note: If you have any metal surgical implants, don't go near stop4stuff's fridge, you may be stuck to it permanently wink

I have a couple of small NIB magnets and I was amazed at how much stronger they are than ordinary ceramic ones. Right now my kitchen is also my workshop, and I use them as uber fridge magnets that can stick whole sheaves of papers and schematics to my fridge.

They also make loudspeakers with neo magnets that are a lot lighter and more compact than the usual ceramic ones of the same power rating. I would get them for my bass guitar amp but they're also a lot more expensive frown

neo magnets can kill if swallowed!
