Hi all, i am working on an audio modulated flyback and had a couple questions. I'm still kinda new to the flyback transformer thing, but i have got one working. I used 2x 2N3055 transistors in parallel cause i kept blowing it out.

But my questions are,
1. What kind of caps should i use? like what voltages?
2. Instead of the IRFP250N, Could i use one of my 2N3055 transistors? ( if not i can always get one )

Here is the diagram i am working with.

Thanks for all the help in advance every one.

The capacitors can be anything rated higher than the input voltage. I would definitely use a mosfet, less losses and faster. They wont die as fast as a 2n3055, and if made right they will never die. For that voltage input, almost any mosfet in a to-220 package or bigger could be used (other packages will work too, i am just stating that there are not many mosfets in to-220 or bigger that aren't rated for less that what you need)

Can't say I agree with you on the "TO-220 thingy" Arcie.
I've seen several high voltage FET's in TO-220 packages that got a Rds on about a ohm voltage on 1200, max current on little less then one A.

Anyyway.. Tigeris use IRFP250, you'll get them cheap from ebay, but beware, they might be fake.

The MOSFETs from Thaishopetc on ebay seems legit, Conner did some measurements on some samples I send him.

Also its those I used in the audio modulated flyback Tigeris showed schematics of and in the audio modulated sstc I am currently working on.

Wasn't this the circuit that killed your iPod MadsKaizer?

Thanks for the help guys :) I'm still working on it. But another question came up. The MOSFET i have has Base, Collector, and Emitter. But the diagram i am looking at has Drain, Gate, and Source. Could some one help me with that? i have no idea what is what.

If it got B-C-E, it is not a FET it is a BJT.

Hehe yeah :D

But it has more to do with the ipod shuffle using the headphone plug for both earplugs, rechargeging and datatransfer, so the tiny IC that controlled when it did what did not like the transients :) (*cough* weak piece of crap design *cough*)

Never had problems with the CD player I also used with this circuit.

An idea is to tie two fast diodes antiparallel to ground this will make the voltage never increase 1.2Vpp and might save your player..

what about using an optocoupler to protect the player?
