Very old Flyback

Well I tried building it, and nothing... Maybe the 555 or the MOSFET is dead, I will try and change them..

Is there any way to tell if the flyback is dead ?

An easy check is to measure the resistance of the secondary, should be 70-800 ohms.
If there is any internal damage, you can know only when you power it up, but if the secondary measures OK, there will always be some output (albeit weak) even when there is an internal damage.
So if you are getting absolutely nothing out, then the driver is to blame.

Flybacks usually 8.5kv, 9kv, 1kv(very rare), 6kv and 25kv(rare too, but i have 4 flybacks like that). Measure resistance of flyback and it will be easy to guess approximate voltage

try to use your 555 driver with good flyback(if dirver failed to oscillate with good flyback - you got a mistake in 555 driver) and then change to that old flyback
