A little more on topic, that above list is already in effect for any sort of chemical really... its hard to get anything, and any chemicals that are still useful are hard to get, even simple acids for cleaning sometimes.

It could be a sign of the times, science seems to be going the way of the dinosaur because schooling is going down the route of learning by copying rather than learning by original research :(

FWIW I have enough problems getting hold of chemicals as it is, I got some strange looks and a grilling of epic proportions when asking for H2O2 at the chemist, explained it was for PCB making. 10% with phosphoric acid and other dreck added probably won't work but thats the best I can do.

Today's scientists have substituted mathematics for experiments, and they wander off through equation after equation, and eventually build a structure which has no relation to reality.
Nikola Tesla (1857 - 1943), Modern Mechanics and Inventions, July, 1934

I've noticed that while the quote is applicable, alot of experiments are hard to carry out anyway with limited funding...

What I think is more applicable is the fact that copyrights, trademarks, and patents have become the target of research. Instead of finding a potential drug to cure cancer, its finding the loophole in someone elses copyright on the gene, etc.
