2) No LED's with a power output over 1200mcd or 10 lumens whichever is the greater EXCEPT as 1a)

3) No capacitors with a storage energy of over 6 Joules, or a rated voltage of over 25 Volts EXCEPT as 1a)

4) No remote or radio control toys, or other products with a functional range of over 6 metres
4a) EXCEPT when control is via infra-red only.

If people didn't get the joke by *13 then.. Its a joke. Luckily the UK Govt (despite tabloid reports to the contrary) isn't that paranoid yet. At least I hope not.

It may be satire, but there's a lot of truth in it about the way society has gone.

What follows is neither a joke, nor a satire.

All around Brighton there are now police posters with a picture of a flashy looking man wearing sunglasses, and smoking a big cigar. He has a large, ugly, gold ring on one of his fingers.

The caption says: "Too much Bling?* Give us a ring?"

* Slang for flashy gold jewelry.

So if I see an over-dressed man with too much jewelry, I, as a good citizen, am supposed to ring up a "confidential hotline" to inform the police in case this person is making their money from crime.

As for capacitors, try exporting a capacitor that a paranoiac might believe to be slapper capacitor. rolleyes

It kind of scares me that this is how society will probably end up in 20+ years

I heard on IRC some time ago that someone ordering from Digikey already has to 'sign' a waiver agreeing not to use parts ordered for 'terrorism', not sure if its true.

Just a whole load of rubbish imo though. Voice your desire for rights as a minority and your name will be taken down for later consequences. You'd have to get the entire electronics community to get any real change... afaik it isn't this bad yet but it makes me wonder what it will be like in a few years...

In Britain you pretty much can't take photos or video of cops abusing their power anymore, they've made it illegal I think. Sooner or later it will be illegal to dissent or not support the government....

Yup aonomus, its the same with Rapid.

koff Ebay /koff (in fact a lot of people now buy components on here because of the hassle with small orders from the "Big Three" (RS, CPC, Rapid) at least in the UK.)
