Damn, none scheduled yet for San Diego. I'm sure KPBS could knock off a few episodes of California's Gold with Hule Houser to make room. I'm sure no one will notice.

That was cool. I also liked the solar powered gondola.
The rfid implant is just not cool though!

I have to agree with you on that RFID. Probably pretty convenient for that guy right now but it has scary potential that seems impossible to avoid.

I've put the full uncut version on Noobtube. It's 7 minutes, MakeTV cut it down to about one and a half.

Link2

The aspect looks a bit messed up, but I have no idea how to fix that.

Just checked out the 7 min version which was all one long shot. You have to have things well set up to do that. In my experience it has been about 6 hours of shooting for 1-2h of video for every 5 mins that goes to air. Typically: "now that we have the shot of you screwing that bolt on, do it again for the close up, then from a different angle ..."
Anyway, nice work. Must get some of those Eye Bee Gee Tee thingo's...

I'm a tad dissapointed you didn't show MakeTV a CM300 (or bigger? :D). Otherwise, great video, hopefully more people get interested in coils now.

Thanks for the kind words, all!

I'm sure it will get more people interested, but the interest will probably just take the form of messaging me on Youtube: "OMG dude that's sick plz send me the schematics"

If anyone has any ideas about how to translate that into a useful contribution to the HV hobbying community, I'm all ears. Should I message them back suggesting that they join 4hv? smile

aonomus: The IGBTs I showed are the same kind I used in the singing Tesla coil, so I thought they were relevant. I didn't want to show an enormous brick and maybe give a false impression that large bricks are suitable for tabletop sized coils.

TDU: We had a couple of dry runs through it to try and work out a "script", and then just hit Record and hoped for the best. Having no budget and only a few hours to shoot can be very liberating.

Which reminds me, I should say thanks to the cameraman/director, Ken Rice of Glasgow Caledonian University.
