I guess it depends on what you want to do with the laser. If you want to burn stuff, youll get bored QUICKLY with the above mentioned 150mW IR laser. You wont get a 100mW laser complete with housing and power supply ready for plug and play for $100.00 unless you get cheap, unreliable chinese junk.

Wow thats $$$...
Ebay has plenty of stuff for well under $100.00 at around 250mW (modules). A pointer style laser will suck too as the battery power tries to keep up with current draw.

At those power levels, you had better be looking for protective eyeware specifically designed for the wavelength of the laser you're using. Buying a laser of unknown wavelength makes it difficult to get the proper protective eyeware.

I have 2 CO2 lasers & had several pairs of at least optical density 6 or greater glasses before I even had the lasers in hand. Be careful, you only have ONE pair of eyes.
