Well I am probably one of the posters that you guys are all talking about but I have to agree with 3l3ctrici7y, I have seen the method of forcing new members to post in a seperate forum until their post count is higher than a certain amount used in another forum and I think it works quite well (And gives a place for older members to post "lower quality" questions that they still need to ask)

Is the lack of quality in newb's posts really a problem compared to the lack of new interesting members/projects? The only new things happening here during the course of the last year are new incarnations of Steve's many SSTCs. Now I know this is greatly exaggerated as there are many fine Tesla coils being made regularly, but quite frankly they don't interest me so much anymore. I mean, I've been looking at coils in various forms for a few years now, and they don't come in many varieties other than big and small.
What I think is needed is opening up for a larger demographic of science enthusiasts. While an increase in the tin-foil hatter crowd would surely follow, wouldn't it weight up for saving the other forum sections from withering away? Just look at the number of threads in chemistry, electromagnetic radiation and computer science for example. I'll admit those topics don't interest me much, but even the high voltage forum and EM projectile forums are a bit of a drab, and those are my favourites. Let's face it, new stuff just isn't happening very often here, and tightening up the rules won't lure more people to the forum, just ease everyday use for existing members. I think we need to find a way to market this forum to the right group of people, in order to increase activity, which in turn will bring about more quality content.
...all of which rests on that there are masses of potential members out there. From what I see on the net almost everything awesome happens in Eastern Europe/Russia in regards to "this hobby". For all I know there just aren't enough people doing this sort of thing willing to join, as they already have a forum in their native language. Could someone on a different forum which is active and deals with HV related stuff give their two cents?

Uzzors brings up a good point. This forum needs to lure some of the more professional crowd. There are many great project out there, but they are not on forum's. This comes back to the post quality, If those are made better, then more advanced people will be inclined to come here.
We just need to put a bottle of Drano down the forums =)

I think Uzzors makes an excellent point. An increase in the range of experiment and imaginative application of high voltage science would bring new vitality, interest, and membership to the board.

I in all sincerity hope that anyone who made a post in this thread is really more concerned with lending someone with less experience some thoughtful help. Rather than the otherwise, thinking ones self should not make a reply because the person asking the question is just a "newbe" or knowingly less knowledgeable than yourself. At one time all of us were the "newbe" asking the dumb questions. I do realize when a case is hopeless, and i appreciate when a stop is put to senseless babble. I also appreciate when someone more knowledgeable than me helps me out when i feel like an idiot... I really would like to personally thank Chris and Always helpful Dan! You both have helped me learn a hell of a lot in a very short time! I believe this is a place where people can learn without feeling inferior to anyone else. This is a place i want to be. Mike...

Perhaps the solution is to have a multiple language forum. Many people don't speak English yet are just as enthusiastic as anyone else to have their say/discuss projects etc.
Shouldn't be too hard, just duplicate the basic format on multiple high level pages, so it would be etc.
translate a few articles of general interest as best you can, perhaps ask for help from multilingual 4HV members.
