For the one with the increadbly nice sound, it is "325 volts dc, rectified and filtered mains voltage (230V ac)". I also guess it is 50% duty cycle according to his comments.
Shouldn't the mosfets be of higher voltage?
Does he mean this by "drives two mosfets in phase in a "half-controlled fullbridge" fashion (two switch single pulse forward-flyback converter)"?

That is a very nice schematic for the plasma speaker Dr. Kilovolt! That power MOSFET/diode/transformer topology is commonly referred to as a "two-switch forward" seen and explained here.
It is an excellent choice for dealing with the transformer leakage. When the switches turn off, the energy stored in the leakage inductance of the transformer (or leads to the transformer) simply gets recycled to the power supply. With DIY plasma speakers based off jankey transformers, we usually don't know how much leakage we're dealing with, and it's usually high. Good work!
