I finally got around to obtaining the datasheet for the IGBTs: ]hgtg20n60a4.pdf[/file]

I looked at the datasheet for the IRFP460, and the HGTG20N60A4 IGBTs seem like a perfect replacement for them. Maximum current for these IGBTs is 70A, as I remembered, but it falls to 20A at 100kHz. This matches the IRFP460's current rating of 20A and voltage rating of 600V. These also seem like a recent development.

The FFP08S60SNTU (600V, 8A, ultrafast "Stealth2") diodes I have can easily replace the MUR860s you need.

200kHz Operation at 390V, 12A according to datasheet. It will be too slow for my purpose, unfortunately. :'( They sounded good too. I am using 350khz secondary. I do not want to use a large topload, i want the breakout point to be my hard drive platter, as it looks very cool as it breaks out just like a small SGTC but the streamers are hotter.

I amz sorry. By the way, what did you need the SCR's for? And how about the transformer? Perhaps we can make some sort of a deal other than mosfets?

I have plans to use them for a rapid fire coilgun (specs are secret for now). I am assuming those SCRs are from the Littelfuse E6 thyristor series. As for the transformer, I just wanted to experiment with it.

I have plenty of other parts that I don't need (from my previous projects that I never bothered to finish or the projects that I bought the wrong parts for), which are mostly semiconductors. There's CD74HC digital logic, high power BJTs, and other random discretes and integrated circuits. If you need any of a specific chip or discrete, then ask and I might have some on hand.

Arc,

Those igbt's will run fine in your coil. The coil I linked you earlier uses the same exact ones. Look at the size of the secdondary. Its 2.5 inches wide and 5 inches tall and its got a 4 inch toroid. Its wound with 34 or 36 awg wire and the Fres is pretty high it's somewhere around 500KHz. They are great and are very fast some of the fastest Ive seen. They would be far better than any of the fets I planned on sending. I also use them in my other coils running 250Khz at 200 amp peak. I'm sure they can handle more. this coil used them also. Link2

Well i am looking for something that will last for awhile, not last for 1ms :P. The max current at 350khz would be somewhere near 6 amps. I need something that can handle more than that.

Anyone else then? I have a few thousand feet of tinned copper uninsulated, a small spool of 36awg insulated wire, i have a few flyback cores, and if there are any other semiconductors you might need, i can look. Also a few large heatsinks, one weighing about a pound or two.

I now have a running sstc driver, but the new mosfets i got keep dying even though they are far below there ratings. I would like to trade something for some irfp460's. I do not know what could trade, just PM me with a request within reason, and i will consider. If you have some irfp460's, we can work something out. I also need maybe 2 or 4 MUR860 diodes.

Could you use IRFP260's to keep going or do you need the higher voltage rating on the 460?

Would a pair of RHRG7560 do it for you on the diode side?

Yes, both of those would work. How many do you have, and what would you like for how many?

I think I only have two left of the FET's I used them in the Ward Mini SST. I have some 100V ones I can give you too. They can probably e used when trouble shooting at low power.

PM me your postal address and I will send them to you with the diodes.

Also include a little more about what you are working on. I might have some more stuff that can be of help. I had an old Ham helping me with components when I was a kid and the tradition must go on...

Keep your parts, You will regret if you bargain them away.

I am sending you a pair of the 260, some fast diodes and also some IGBT's and it looks like there are more coming from others to. I also included a set of the 74HC08,14 and 74's and a pair of gate drivers pushed into a solderles breadboard, two 220V TVS's and some other stuff I had extras of.

I also included a 206 current transformenr of the type used in the Mini Brute. With this you allmost have all the stuff you need to do a hybrid between Wards Mini SST and the MiniBrute (eg add syncronus switching and current limiting) I also put a sheet of 2oz double sided PCB to build on. Look at how radio amateurs build RF amps as guidance (Ugly construction, manhattan construction etc)

15 year old's that are wiling to build someting rather than playing computer games are a good thing to support.

You should have the package on Wednesday. Please be careful when removing the IC's from the prototype board. Sucks to kill them with no power applied smile

My parents were totally untechnical (but supportive to my toys) Mom was a home ecconomics teacher and dad was a phone lineman. I was lucky to have an older brother and his friend sharing my electronics interest. I also had a Ham (SM3HJQ) that was my mentor giving me components and old stuff to take components from.

I work for a major us corporation today and most of what they pay me to do I learned outside school (no, i did not say school is unimportant, formal schooling is required but not sufficient...) Compare what you learned by spending $10/week building tesla coils vs what you learn at a high school at a cost around $5-15k or so per year.... Passion is everything and passionate engineers make 6 figures easily

If you have a good phone manner you can get a lot of free components. If you call a local rep for the semiconductor companies and tell them that you are doing a science fair project with resonant pover conversion I am sure they give you what you need. You can also show that you actually accomplished something through your videos and postings on this forum.

One very reliable source for samples is analog devices. I got a lot of free stuf from them.

An other place to find good stuff is hamfests. (if you like building stuff you should get a ham licence. You can get on the air for peanuts if you build your own radios and take the time to learn CW). Yu can find out more about local hamfests and ham radio at Link2
