Wow, sweet coil man! Very nice construction.

Just wondering, what camera did you use to film those videos? Quite superb quality.

Thanks :)

I recorded it using the Samsung NV24HD compact camera, real cheap camera that can do 720p recordings.

EDIT: I rewound the primary in the opposit direction and restored it to 0,45K coupling, works like a charm again!

I have rebuild the SSTC into a full bridge design instead, 4x IRFP460, 4x MUR1560 diodes, 8A rectifier bridge, 1500uF smoothing capacitor and 4R7 gate resistors.

The primary is 8 turns of AWG12 with a diameter of 160mm, secondary diameter is 110mm.

At 30VAC in to about 150VAC in, I get the same result, the tesla coil resonates but are unable to generate a output, I can light a flourescent tube in close proximity to the secondary coil or I have to touch the topload with the tube for it to light.

I can adjust BPS through the driver, so everything seem to be in working order, except it seems weak.

In the first versions described in this thread it was at about 0.45K coupling, now its around 0.15K. I just dont have time before next week to get into working with it again, so I am writing this to get some inputs on what could be wrong.
Even though I suspect the lower coupling to be the issue.

But I do also get a "clicking" sound from the driver or mosfets, I have not been able to see any sparks or flashovers in the drivers circuit.

First phase of the adventures with the SSTC5 are now complete and the experiences I made have been written down at: Link2

Nice article. I just ordered a bunch of new IRFP460's and since I now finally own a decent variac and isolation transformer, I hope I can get my own SSTC5 replication to work reliably pretty soon.
