I put it back to life and I implemented the CT feedback and I took a second CT and hooked a 1Ohm resistor over it for current monitoring. When driving with about 10VAC I got about 2 inches of sparks. At that level I looked at the gates and I get a half ass +-10V square wave at 220kHz. That seem reasonable since I have a 1:1 transformer and I feed with 12V to the gate driver. I wound the transformer when building it based on Steve Wards design and I never rewound it with the 10//10 to 20 turn config.

I will do that an aim for about 15-20V on the gate. Increasing to 15V dc could help to I guess.

I get about 240A peak to peak on the primary, The current increases like a RC envelope over a few dozen cycles and then drops abruptly. Seems like that it is quite independent of feed voltage.

I start to think that buying the book would have helped understanding this beast. What is the delivery time? I get teh feel that it is a print on demand deal.

Those cores aren't wound bifilar or trifilar. Looks like they're just wound on top of each other. They would make for a nice looking board though. Although I like my latest ones just fine.

Tribilogist, I would definitely in increase the GDT voltage like you said if you're using 40n60's.

My large coil is currently collecting dust since the weather is less than ideal for out door coiling (14F right now). I have been spending most of my time working on high power (+5KW) SSTCs.

That sucks, its a nice 80 degrees here now thanks to the Santa Ana winds. Allergies are driving me nutts though.

Not sure I understand. I put about 5 twist/inch before winding but eh wire is teflon coated so it moves around a little. It will be harder to do a classic trifilar winding if I have two 10T in paralell on the input and two 20T on the output. I will try and see what I get.

Oh i was talking about the commercial transformers. The windings are wound on top of each another.
