Do you think that the same trick will work for disposable camera transformers? They have some very nasty green (or whatever colour) stuff keeping the core halves together. The tiny cores would be useful for something.

It will work for most cores but you sometimes have to boil them longer/pull apart hard/try more times, and even then some of the nasty ones just won't come apart...
It's then best to break the core in 1 place, it will be easier to disassemble and if you do a good job super-gluing it back together, it will work just as fine.
