Not as much effort as you put in =p
Why not just put some ads to help support the site? If they where to go below the thanks section, it would be unobtrusive, yet visible. Its good to know this forum wasn't made just for money though.

Yes thats is what I have been thinking, it would be great to put some appropriate ads up, something to do with electronic components like an ad for fairchild ect..

It could possibly help this forum support itself.

Just my two cents.

=)

I don't know about you, but I find ads really distasteful. If it came down to 4hv.org going down or putting ads up, I guess I would put up ads, but I'd much rather it didn't come to that. It seems like practically every corner of the Internet, as well as much of the real world, has ads screaming from every direction. It's nice to have a small break from that. Also, last time I checked, the advertisers wanted me to remove the rail/coil gun discussion. I'm really uncomfortable with giving someone leverage into what sorts of discussions 4hv.org will and won't tolerate. That seems like a decision best left up to the community, not an ad agency.

So far, people have been very good and kind with supporting 4hv.org, so I don't think that's a decision we'll have to face, fortunately.

I feel bad about the fact that I can't afford to donate. Well, I could probably spare 10€, but what good would that do? tongue I'm a poor student.

And is the only way to donate through paypal? Cause I don't have a credit card either. Maybe some day...

Sorry, missed your comment on my first reply. You'd be surprised what 10 Euros can do. I work from home on a completely flexible schedule. Even small donations mean that I can turn my attention to working on 4hv.org for a bit longer. On a slow work day, 10 Euros could literally mean an hour or two more to work on the site. An hour here, an hour there... it adds up, even if it's just a dollar or two to buy a cool beverage while I code. cheesey

Donations by mail are fine, too. Paypal is just easier because I get it more quickly, and one avoids the fee of purchasing an international money order. I wouldn't suggest sending currency. There's too much temptation for it to "get lost," and the only money I can really use here without large exchange fees is US money and Canadian money. Anyone who'd like to go the mail route is more than welcome to PM me for an address.

Well, if i can ever sell my pole pig, im going to try to give at LEAST 100 bucks. Thanks to this site, i have thousands of dollars worth of information(and material stuff :)) and friends. All thanks to the work of you Chris, and all the admins and moderators, and all the members for sure! I am hoping to get something like 500 bucks for my pig( alot, i know, but where else are you going to find a 50kw pig for 500 bucks?). If i get 500 bucks, i will donate 100, if i get 600, i will donate 150, or maybe even 700 bucks..... ah hell i would give 250 if i was feeling generous(very unlikely i wouldn't) :P.

VIVA LA 4hv!!!! cheesey

I agree, as there are many ways to fund a project as just have to be creative…..

Was thinking have a few things to clean out or have extra the could put on ebay, the proceeds would go to 4HV if that is O.K. with Chris? Will send link to sale section?

yes, no...maybe?

Apologies for the late reply. It's been a hectic holiday season!

I think that's a really good idea. With coverage on the front page of the site, that would be a very generous and helpful offer.

I got a debit gift card for Christmas so i felt that the least i could do for 4hv is donate a couple bucks. This site taught me about 80% of all the information i know know and i felt that i needed to give back a little. Thanks Chris for hosting such a great site.

Well I just donated $10, I havn't really been on the forums for long but the info I've gained just from reading other people threads has got to be worth at least 5x that. Thanks for the great forums, and I hope they never have to have ads!

Hello all,

Thanks, again for the support. I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but it's really making a large impact on how much time I have to work on the site. Expect an update to the thank you list tomorrow, with some fresh names from first-time donors. Hoping to at least have some screencaps available for everyone to look over soon!
