my parents want me to give them a list of stuff they can get me for xmas.

What are some good ideas for stuff a HV/ electronics/ robotics enthusiast / student such as myself?

Where can they go to get some good kits for me?

 		Well for some non-HV kits:

LadyAda for some nifty Arduino Shields (Motor control, MP3 playback, GPS, ethernet). Also some other stuff like the Mintyboost, various POV kits.

EvilMadScience if they have some more cash for less versatility, some LED kits.

Lets not forget the tons of categorized gift guides down the right hand side of MakeZine's homepage and Makezine's store

Really good clever electronics kits are a bit of a dying breed imo, they are either too simple and can't be integrated into a project, or too costly to building your own... (for those that remember Heathkits, compare those, to the crap that gets sold now)

 		Grab some header board (as evaluation boards use out-of-date parts), programming hardware - and start coding ;) Or get some good bricks.. Or ask 'em of a nice spun toroid.. A box of drugs, weapons and explosives is a nice thing as well if you ask - but hey, it's your X-Mass wish, not mine, get creative ;)

A spund toroid or some bricks is a great idea!

what kind of bricks, if I wanted a 900W coil lets say, for audio modulation

 		Heh, so if the wonderbox failed ;)
Try out something fun - a dev board with some MCU or FPGA is a really nice toy to play around with.
For 900w you'll need no bricks actually - I got way above 1kW (can't tell for sure how much - got no needle ampermeter) with just some average single-crystal fets :) But hey, don't tell me you don't want some wicked DRSSTC ;)
