A bit off-topic, perhaps, but did you know that snow flakes grown in an HV electric field grow in strange ways?

Using electric fields to alter the growth of snow crystals

We have traditionally snow (and Santa Claus)...

Doesn't the world's supply of Santa come from Finland? Link2 Link2

It's definitely not random. It's growing following the path of the electricity, which seems to be some sort of fractal. It reminds me of the HV wood burn fractal patterns. I wonder if there's some sort of formula for the pattern/path of the current?

I thought some of the pictures of the 'precision snowflakes' on the site were truly extraordinary - one wouldn't recognize them as being snow at all - more like small flowers growing off a stem.

I wonder if the effect might occur with other sorts of crystals that didn't require a big and costly snow making apparatus?

No kidding... I'm in the armpit of Ontario (Hamilton) and we are getting dumped on. Thankfully I can work from home. We've shoveled 3 times already, and it looks like we've done nothing. Has to be about 15cm so far today, thinking I'll see about another 15 before the day is through...

My daughter is 2 weeks into a 5 month chalet season in Val d'Isere - in last 7 days - 2 metres of snow.

Whilst sitting in cold, damp, London (the real one in England), why would I feel jealous?

Pah!
