I turned 30 in April.
Almost straight away I got obsessed by vacuum tubes. But I'll know I've truly arrived when I get a magnificent bald spot like Richie's.
I have an engineering PhD and I'm currently working on a research contract at a university, to develop portable instruments for detecting partial discharge in HV plant. In other words our goal is to put an end to all those cool exploding transformer movies on Youtube, by detecting the signs of impending doom months before it actually happens.
We found a faulty 11kV SF6 breaker with one of our prototypes last week, which I'm pretty happy about. I'm even happier that it didn't explode while we were in the substation poking around it.
Before that I worked for a company that made laser drivers and industrial gas sensing equipment.

38 I read a Tesla biography in high school and I saw in that book the amasing picture of his magnifier. I was hooked. Just little HV experiments until I finished the Uni, then I got access to the Internet. The things went quicker, first TC in 1999-2000, then Powerlabs>>Fulmen Labs>>4HV forums. I am slowly working on a new VTTC, it will be pics when is ready. The time became too short with the years.
