Petrol sells ~AU$1.05/litre
Diesel sells ~AU$1.45/litre

It bugs me that diesel, a less-refined fraction, costs much more than petrol, but I guess it's because it comes from tense middle-eastern crude =P -- used to be the other way around.

Yea i really don't understand that. Today i saw regular for $1.53gal and diesel is $2.99gal. What gives? I think it is all a environmental thing.

This morning in Huntsville, AL I filled up and it was $1.52 a gallon. That's only $0.40 a liter. A huge difference from last year about this time.

The price is 5$ per gallon here if you find a good deal. More like 6 bucks on weekdays. Not what you would expect from a oil-producing country. (Wages are about twice as high as most countries in absolute value, so we win a little)

Tell me about it! I'm currently working on a contract for a Norwegian company who arguably outsourced it to Scotland to save money on wages.

Gas works out about $5/gallon here too, except it's called "Petrol" and you buy it by the litre.

The actual refining cost of fuel is about the same in the US and Europe. The reason prices are high at the pumps in Europe is because of the extremely high taxation European states put on the fuel. This mostly due to offset costs of improving roads, conservational efforts, as well as discouraging people to drive and forcing them to use public transportation.

Don't blame the oil companies for that one. Blame your government.

Here in Belgium, filled up on diesel for 0.82 euro/liter (or about USD 4.00/US gallon).

Taxes here are indeed very high, but by European standards, that is a good price...
