Well, since i am making my own arsg, i figured it would be cool to share our rsg projects and ideas. I have not yet finished either of mine(one for small coil, one for larger), but once i do i will post some pics.

Well, i am using a small one, it is only 2 watts :P But of course i am running it on 12 volts instead of 3.
I finished my small one up an it worked great, until the wood decided to become conductive, so now it is a shorted rsg. Need to find some thick plastic man!

*Cough.* I agree with rp181. I'm doing a 14" 1800RPM SRSG with 1/25HP. It is running at synch, but this is ASRSG, but it all can work. Point is, if you have low enough air drag.
Propeller type, but it works, no reason why it wouldn't. 3/16" brass and tungsten on the prop. 1/8" tungsten on stationary.

Here's mine, using a little sewing machine motor, gets hot but it works pretty good.
The real trouble is it has no optical tracking and the inertia of the gap is a lot for this little motor so regulation is not really possible. This would need a PID controller to maintain speed properly.

The official line is: Don't use plexiglass, lexan, a chopping board, the lid of a laundry basket, whatever, for your rotor. They might seem strong enough at room temperature, but they're thermoplastics (google it) and spark gap electrodes, believe it or not, get extremely hot.
Tufnol and G-10 are thermosetting: they don't soften with heat. They're also very expensive, but having tungsten rods removed from your forehead is pretty costly too.
