Since you already have a SGTC I suggest;
Build a Zero-Voltage-Switching (ZVS) invertor using the MOSFETs
Use the SGTC Secondary and topload as-is use the Primary Capacitor across the Primary Inductor centre-tap the Primary Inductor to connect the power supply Inductor
power supply voltage <= (MOSFET Vds max.)/3.1416 can be Variac plus half- or full- wave rectifier, with or without reservoir capacitor (but put a few uF of low esr capacitance from +Vhv to -Vhv a good choice is polyproplene motor-run capacitors to keep the rf currents away from the diodes and variac/transformer)
add 2 x Mosfet, 2 x 100 Ohm and 2 x (any fast >=500V diode) and a 12V to 15V power supply.
A basic CW SSTC
You will quickly learn a lot about hf/hv electronics Hint; connect the primary capacitor with minimum inductance (wire) to the MOSFETs to reduce spurious parasitic oscillations.
Now try a new 'secondary' of the same diameter and wire as the existing Secondary, but say 1/4 the number of turns connect the top of this new secondary to the bottom of the original Primary, which now becomes the tertiary/resonator/extra-coil of a Magnifier CW SSTC The Primary Inductance or Capacitance will need re-tuning (lower freq.)
CW TCs are great for powering-up stuff, (gas tubes, remote resonators etc) but not good for long arcs so Next step would be a DRSSTC

DRSSTCs are not really more complicated, but they are more unforgiving as the electrical stresses on components tends to be higher than standard SSTCs.
If you are planning on building an SSTC, there is no reason you shouldn't be building a DRSSTC.

well it will be my first one so i guess i will see about trying that, when is your book coming out? also what is an IGBT? is it like a heavy duty transistor or somwhat like one?

My book should be out by the end of May hopefully. It has turned out to be a bit longer than expected and seems i'm always adding more pages so its about 300 pages now.
An IGBT is an insulated gate bipolar transistor. In simplest terms, its a bipolar transistor with a MOSFET type gate to drive it instead of a base as typical in bipolars. Do a search on GOOGLE for more information on these.
