Well, the good thing is, those caps will basically last you a lifetime. So also make sure to mount them really nice. Also, Polyethylene by itself is pretty decent with rf. I have some yellow PE gas pipe that heats up less than pvc when i put it in the microwave (my rf loss checker :P)

Well, i couldn't seem to find it at first but i finally found the list of caps that are good/bad.
Link2
That is what i went by when i got my .68uf 1600vdc CDE caps. If it wasn't for that(and people talking about it) i might have bought some kinda of cap from ebay that just wouldn't work.

Only ones you should EVER get from eBay, are those CDE caps or the maxwell pulse caps rated for 30nf and like 35kvdc. Those are the only ones that are on ebay that can be used in tesla coils without failing very quick. I have tried a few different caps.

I have used mylar sheet to make a tesla coil capacitor, i have tried the party cup caps, i tried 3 different kinds from ebay(one was the CJE cap, one was ceramics because i was new to coiling at the time and i saw tesla down under use them, and i tried some that worked ok, but failed quick and did not give me performance anywhere near what i got with the CDE), and none of them work.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I will look for a bunch of CDE caps...problem is i seem only to find them at the tesla store on ebay, and even there only at a somewhat underwhelming rating.... 0.15uF at 2kV. Id need 10 of them just to get to the puny rating i need for my little 7kV 25mA transformers....

Anyone know where you can get these at the source, so to speak? And perhaps at higher capacitances such as the .68uF 1.6kV model that arcstarter mentioned? I think i would sacrifice the slightly lower voltage rating to get so much more capacitance!

I bought 100 942C20P15K-F at newark dot com, just to get the price down to about $4.15 a piece. They are what they are, they cost what they cost. :(

I first bought a 24 pack at a "Tesla store" on Ebay. They've been in service for a year.

Their durability makes them worth every penny... smile

Just type in cornell dubilier. But, for the capacitance you need for your coil with the .68uf caps is about 33. I used 32 and had 22nf and 61kvdc. Also, they will cost you out the ass. They are about 10 bucks each!

But, they are GREAT! If you ever get a lower voltage(around 6kv) and high current(maybe like 500 ma) it will be good for that, because you would not need to parallel strings like the .15uf caps. I actually gave 10 away just today :P(and no, i will not give any more away).
