Is there a way to determine the correct ground. I tested with a ohm meter and i think i choose the one with the least resistance but is that correct.

also i just tested it, there is 3 pins that generate any spark and i cant really tell them apart

Look for a pin with infinite resistance to all the others. This is the ground of the high-voltage coil. It's probably one of the pins in the arc of pins at the bottom. Pins out of the arc are the other ground connections, for the potentiometers and the capacitor.
This site has schematic diagrams of many flyback transformers:

Ok thanks, let me just go get a new volt meter :D (haha blew my old one out, luckily it was the cheapest you could buy)

Not all of the pins on all flybacks are used. I would suggest connecting a 9V battery to it and use an LED with a current limiting resistor in series with it (You might not need one actually). IIRC the negative of the battery would go to the ground and the LED to one of the pins at the bottom of the flyback. The HV diode usually has too much voltage drop or the coil has too much resistance for most cheap meters to measure it.

ok well i will just post this if it helps.
horseshoe faceing down 1 if the top letf onwards..
pin 1 has infinante resistence to all
pin 2 has 5 ohm to pin 5 .5 ohm to 7 and .4 ohm to 8
pin 3 has .8 ohm to pin 4 and 1.3 ohm to 6
pin 4 ~1 ohm to 6
pin 5 4.8 ohm to 7 and 8
pin 7 has .3 ohm to 8
i dont know if that helps or not but that is what i have
