Again... i have to back up all three of you. Even though the pig is ballasted with just 1 mot, it is still lethal. I would spend about an hour mounting the mot to something secure and insulated and make good connection wires instead of alligator clips. I cant stress the point inough on how lethal these things are. Also, i am not trying to be mean or anything but i wouldent use a plastic lawnmower gas tank as a insulator. even if there is no gas left in it YOU CAN NEVER GET IT ALL OUT and any vapor left over can cause a explosion.

Arcstarter, I know you probably feel like your getting ganged up on but that's not the case. We genuinely want you to have a safe hv experience but the road your taking dead end's kinda like this. No offense but take Hazmatt's advice and back away. Do some research. Steve Connor wrote:
You should understand electricity well enough to know every possible path the HV current could take, and make sure you won't be part of any of these paths under any circumstances. Generally this means staying away from bare feet, damp grass, wooden chicken sticks, alligator clips that might come loose, and the like.
He's also exactly right. After seeing everything I was almost scared to watch. I also have a pole pig. I got it over the spring. I've not even energized it yet because I don't have the proper things one would need to do it safely. Although I do have everything you have in your videos. See where this is going. Respect the pig and be very careful. What do your parents think about it?

Well, my dad doesn't really like it being here, but he will allow me to keep it, but what is the point of keeping it if i cannot share my success with you guys without looking like a dumbass? Getting this thing here was i believe the hardest thing i have ever had to do, and now i am just getting rid of it. Never thought i would even consider it but i can never power it up to 50kva. I MAY not get rid of it, but i am about to go try..

Don't get rid of it!
Even if you'll be keeping it in the basement for half a decade, a polepig is not the type of thing you just get rid of!
Try and get all the safety issues out of the way, and if you still can't draw an arc without posing a major risk to life and limb: simply pack the pig away until your ready to handle it.

I was concerned with input on this post that you may get a bit dishearten, but I really do care about you and want you to be safe.
We are not born smart and have to learn by experience or word of mouth. 4HV must have over 1000 years experience in HV (all member’s added togeather) and are here to support, help and point out things that may not be obvious, that is why there is always a foreman on the job to be able to overview project with an objective view.
So you’re not a “dumb assâ€, just in learning mode with HV and sure after working with the pig you have learn a great deal, this all done with experience.
I have a little 5Kva pig that just sitting there for 6 years as rather go play with guns then that beast. Pigs scare the hell out of me, as turns my stomach just to power one up. Reason, pigs kill. No second chance. So do not take inputs personal, as we are just trying to help your HV adventures. Been playing with HV for over 40 years and hope I can share my experiences with 4HV.
You may just want to put the pig in storage as you busted butt getting it and be able to trade it in the future for a smaller pig or maybe some nice Maxwell caps.

Well i am just about sick of my dads BS. He yelled and cursed at me today because i cannot move the pig somewhere else and then he yelled and cursed some more because i did not know what he was talking about when he told me i also need to move the microwave transformers. He is mean, and i don't really love him that much. Treats me and my mom and brothers like S%^T!! This is not making me sound like a bad person is it? He came to a band program of mine at school drunk.. He has never hit me but the mental stuff was enough to make me stop going to school. One day he told me i would not be a good son if i told my mom to come pick him up from my brothers house because he was to drunk to drive..
Sorry mods but i really need to vent to people that are nice. Sorry that is was horribly OT..

Hey in a few years from now, you will be gone and then ur dad is going to spend the rest of his life thinking what he could had done different. Remember he has a lot more to contend to as work, family, bills, health issues and sometimes we take it out on our love ones. Life is a bitch indeed!
Reason I know this is my dad was an a-hole big time and drank and beat the crap out of us and next day would not remember what he did, then one day he took off and and found another women and had kids.
Now 50 years later he is trying to make up, begging to take part in my coils; however, can forgive but can not forget. I have to this day never invited him to my Teslathons. You can see the pain in his eyes but is was his own fault.
So what did i do to make it through these tough times, got into HAM RADIO and meet some cool people and started a new path in 1969. Suggestion to you is do what you like in interest, do not let anyone get you down and when you get on your own you will be seasoned to all the a-holes out there.
Hang in there, all this will pass if you give it time.
