To me it doesn't. Sure it would "trip over" if you didn't move the wand, but because of the levitated object's inertia and air friction, it moves slowly so it's perfectly possible to balance it.

Why should it be fake? I cut a few foil strips of an emergency blanket and taped it together into a sphere shape like in the video. When I touched it with a charged object it unfolded and was repelled upwards like expected. But it was nearly impossible to keep it floating because it was simply too heavy. But if the foil is thin enough it will work. In the video the foil falls down slowly after the wand is removed. Much slower then a piece of an emergency blanket would fall. I guess it's probably only 1µm thick or even thinner.
