Legrand, It all has to do with the opening for the column. The oblate allows for an extremely large radius into the opening and even with this large radius most high performance VDGs will arc off of the lower outside radius. The lack of a large radius was definatly the limiting factor for my salad bowl terminals. Thanks, Steve

This is as had suspected, that the flat on the bottom means that you don't have to "turn" so far (90 deg, instead of 120 or so, for example) to get into the inside, and that lack of a "sharp" corner will mean less discharge.
