Hey everyone....its been a while since I've been on these forums, but I have been curious if there are any planned Southern California Teslathons. I'd like to organize one myself, but being a high school senior, there are other things for me to attend to, haha.

Anyways, just curious if any are planned, or happen regularly. Thanks!

Where would it be held? How southern is southern? I mean are we talking where I'm at, or San Diego or what?

Well... if anyone has electrical power for an event and a backyard big enough, they should speak up. Also one of these things is probably requisite of an adult on the property. I'm not sure how parents would feel if their son invited a bunch of strangers over to show off HV toys, and then raid their fridge.

Personally I would like to do it but I live in a townhome complex and not everyone is understanding of the noise. 2. my backyard is itty bitty, and 3. I'm still working on getting enough current out of my service pannel for such an event. The food I think I could manage, but the noise and space I just don't have.

But you could always come over and we could characterize the impedance of the coil ;p

SD is only 5.5 hours drive from Link2
or 4.5 hours on a Fast Bike……come on down next March as will be the biggest yet, two days next (Sat and Sunday) year to allow all coils to be run! Lots of eye candy for sure.

Cheers,
Ch

Good point. I don't know about the power. My neighbors are used to the noise at least and since I hve to listen to thier stinking whiny dog, I guess were even shades . My backyard is a giant slope wouldn't work too well.

What is the biggest coil any of you have? We have a 15' by 10' flat grass area for a larger coil and a patio that is about the same area for smaller coils. If I ask nicely my parents might say yes.

My parents are ok about it, except for the fridge raiding part.

I have a 4" coil that throws arcs about 36", but I can always throw another NST on the base to up the 'arc-age' hehe. I also have a fairly nasty PT I have yet to use as the supply.

But no seriously, do you realize how much noise is generated by a TC? It's not just something you run casually for the neighbors because the noise from mine even distrubs the neighborhood and we're only talking about 1kw here. Throw in a whole bunch of guys with XXkw's of TC's and you have a PR nightmare, and possibly police.

I don't think you have a full feel for the logistics of this kind of thing, even neglecting grounding/ ground rod. Not trying to be mean or anything, its just troublesome, loud, and usually very disruptive to everyone else.
