Ok Im by far a novice with all of this, so please be gentle. I am a stage electrician, I bought plans for this tesla coil and built it.

http://www.amazing1.com/tesla.htm

The elctrodes fire and it gives off air discharges, but it very tempermental.

Sometimes the spark gap will not fire, and other times the spark gap will fire but no air discharge. If I turn it off and back on real fast it will fore and discharge but only to fail a second later.

The spark gap is the spec'ed tungsten single gap electrodes and it has a 8" Toroidal Terminal.

Capacitor: .005M/10KVAC - Cylindrical (1-3/8 X 4-1/4)
Transformer: 6.5KV 20ma

It has no issues discharging to a discharge probe. It also sometimes depending on tuning will make a small discharge across the wire of the secondary coil.

I greatly appreciate any help on this matter.

Now that you have the basic Idea of how the coil works, try building a blown RQ gap.

Single gap spark gaps are okay for a safety gap, but a serious spark gap is needed for better streamers.

For such a small xformer, you should only need 3 or 4 gaps. Too many, and it could be difficult to keep the gaps so closely spaced and not touch.

I'm using also simple gap between two screws for my SG coil without any problem. It looks to me like you are out of tune...

Post some pictures if you want better advice...

Cheers Mates

Good to hear you got it working! Looks like a very well made gap as well. Do you have any operational pictures? How are the streamer lengths?

I can not pass by, excellent!!! Very thought over design, also is accurately made! Good fellow M Ling! All components of high quality that should provide reliable work.

I do not doubt that in operation it should show good result!
When there will be photos of streamers?
