Your coupling looks tight but when properly tuned it shouldnt be problem. How is your RF grounding? From my experience i can tell that improper RF ground can and will cause racing sparks and primary/secondary arcing.

My grounding consists of the magnet wire running away from the coil, a small crimp connector attaches the magnet wire to a copper wire which is attached usually to a pipe, plumbing or electrical conduit of some kind....
