Thanks Steve, I used the cheapest ceramic caps I could find, rated at 630V. This is the 2nd time I got burned with using cheap parts, the 20 Mhz oscillator I used for another project had a horrible waveform with a lot of overshoot and it was preventing PLL from locking up! Replaced with another brand and it works just fine! I have to be more carefull in choosing quality parts. Will try new caps soon!

Finally got time to work on this project again. The only 1kV 1A diodes I could find were UF4007 and byv26, they are all 75 ns rrt and the bridge does heat up at 100kHz amd 200mA. The issue I am having now is that I cant measure the arc current. My digital ammeter goes crazy and reads different values all the time, analog one goes over 300mA. I know the source can not provide more than 200 from the primary current readings and turn ratio!!! Is my rectifier blown or what can be happenning? I had my analog ammeter showing 195-200ma steady before and after a few forgotten changes I cant even do it again :(((

Sorry for the noobish question but were you measring the current right at the transformer primary? Because if you measured input current from mains, you'll get less (because of reactive component on the xfmr primary)

I used a current sence transformer, on the primary, and then used scope's RMS function. Still dont get it!!! Same setup allowed to measure secondary current by connecting an ammeter to a current return(ground) wire. And now ammeter is going crazy!!! I tried everything, half wave, full wave, voltage doubler... same result! I AM LOST...

The reason metters act like that is because output is not rectified!!! Well, its rectified, and cathode heats a lot more than anode, and the voltage is always of the same sign, but if I look at the current waveform, it looks very funny, with a lot of glitches and current jus tflaots in both directions, I didnt have this problem before and have no idea why is it hapenning now... Tried multiple rectifiers, same thing!!!
