Sh** finally hit the fan, the IOC is now investigating the ages of several Chinese gymnasts. Link2

Good to see two great games, each ending in gold for both US men's and women's volleyball!

Jamaica seems to be stepping up the pace with track and field.
There is not one event that I don't see "the Bolt" with a commanding lead.

How many world records has he broken so far?
3 and counting?

Outstanding achievements all around!
I can't wait to see what else they are capable of in the coming games.

China also seems to have taken the high dive competition to a new level.
I have never seen such precision in diving.
They are unmatched.
7 out of 7.

While the Olympics has been a little shaky this time around, I am impressed with all the great performances of all the competitors.

What that means is that since all the countries with the strongest gymnastic programs usually have a finalist competing, that you end up with judges from countries that aren't as competent in gymanstics and thus end up with a judge competency issue. So a judge may not be so keen to see small nuances in the performance as someone from one of the "strong" countries would be.

Now that's reaching? We watching are not trained judges and we can see the obvious faults that the judges seem to miss.
20million people and we are holding 6th. Go Australia.
Nice to see America catching up with China.

Interesting to add up the old USSR countries which at 37 gold would put them well ahead of the USA on 32 gold.

I was impressed by the Aussie winning the pole vault gold. Amazing watching the slo-mo of them launching and seeming to go up forever.

Yeah, the US is really chokin' on the track events. From the 4x100 mens and womens, to Lolo's choke on the high hurdles. And definitely Wariner's upset on the 400m, although he lost to another team mate (rival)

How about Korea taking gold in baseball? Good stuff. I normally don't pay too much attention to the Olympics, but it's been a fun year. The women's marathon was incredible. Tomescu looked great out there.

Relax, folks. This is supposed to be fun and entertaining. There's no need to drag politics or religion into it. I always see the athletes congratulating one another on the field. I don't recall Phelps finishing off with "take THAT, other nations!" It's a shame we can't be similarly happy for one another's achievements off the field.

After the wrapup, I guess the surprise from Australias point of view is the British who took medals in our areas of strength in the swimming and cycling. This cut our gold tally down to lowest for some time.
As our coaching/sport support budget has dropped in relative terms and Britains has greatly increased ahead of the London 2012 games, this is a big concern. The host nation always scores better in that year.
There does apear to have been a significant brain drain of our coaches overseas and to the UK in particular due to the more lucrative contracts.
I most enjoyed the pole vault gold. He's a local boy from Perth Western Australia, too but gets no press locally being better known overseas (until the gold medal).

Lets see what the closing ceremony brings - I will miss that too due to work.

Speaking of diving - a nice score for Australia yesterday- Matthew Mitcham won the 10m Men's Platform Diving gold - I really thought the Chinese would go 8 for 8 on diving.
