You realise you will need a bigger tank cap when you run a rotary SPKG. Also accordingg to other sources a an ASYNC gap will be eaiser to run with neons. A sync gap could be too hard on them.
Anyways---> also for a static gap multiple break points are better than two. YOu will not get near the performance due to conductivity of the gap (heat/ionization) When i get back in December I will help with this process.

An ARSG will kill the NSTs for sure. You really should be running SRSG or SG for these transformers. Remember that SRSG gaps run along the same waveform of the NSTs and an ARSG runs out of phase. NSTs are too fragile to be run ARSG and can't take the higher than average voltage across their secondaries due to dwell time. Others would agree with me I'm sure.

Well, interestingly enough I fired an email off to Jamie Oliver who has been building TCs for quite some time now. He advised against Sync rotaries here is his message to me:

Thanks for the note and picture. You sound like you're an expert
already, pictures look awesome too. I know the difficulty of the
RSG. I recently had the good fortune of being able to work with a
friend and he made me this RSG. I only recently put the pictures on
my site. Take a look:

CAUTION!! I don't have personal experience but from my friend Ed
Wingate who is a big coiler, he told me that you should never use a
synchronous motor for a RSG with a Neon sign txfmr. So beware.
Also, from my experience and Ed's, you do not need a synch motor for
the RSG. We have seen no improvement and he (Ed) has done both. You
may be worrying about nothing.

As far as a tip to make a RSG, you almost need to be a machinist to do
this stuff that I am not. Find someone who can do machining as a
second nighttime job and ask them to work with you. Sorry, not much
help.

Take care, safe travels and coiling.

Jamie
