I've heard horror stories of mosfets being tossed into plastic bags only to be damaged/dead when used, has anyone ordered from ebay dealers specifically from Hong Kong/China and recieved properly packaged mosfets?
More to the point, has anyone ordered from and have anything to say about it? I'm trying to save money atm so I'm being overly cautious.

I have bought 10 IRFP250N and 20 IRFP460 mosfets from this Thailand shop on ebay, they came in normal zipperbags and I were kinda worried, but I have yet to stumple upon a failed unit. Used 4 250s and 6 460s so far.
I think you will find this shop to be cheaper
so compared to buying them in denmark to prices that are about 8-10 times higher, its worth getting them in a zipperbag when its just a hobby :)

wow, that could happen with vacuum tubes probably, but not with mosfets... I actually yet have to see a mosfet die from static electricity. Plastic bags alone wn't do anything bad. Only way you can actually produce ESD damage is if you are holding a mosfet for one pin and touch an object of heavily different potential with other pin. This may happen but is very unlikely.
Most today's semiconductor packages can survive being ran over by a truck. Mechanical damage in shipping is just not possible.

I just ordered 8 IRFP250Ns and 4 IRFP460s from the Thai Shop, I asked for antistatic packaging so we'll see if they arrive in good condition. Otherwise the prices totally outweigh going to digikey for this kind of stuff. Too bad he doesn't carry IGBTs since induction cookers seem to be much bigger in Asia then in North America....

I have some personal semi-political issues with buying from Ebay so honestly I am biased......however, the problem of counterfeit chips is VERY real & annoying ! Please see:
And read it very carefully. I buy from guys on the board, Digikey, Mouser & locally since I was burned twice. The testing & assuring issues are just something I find time consuming & ruin any "bargain" I think I'm getting - plus getting your money back can be a tough one IF the seller claims total innocence to Ebay. Found that out the hard way.
The first time was with fake NTE-284's which NTE claims is near equivalent to 2N3773....these were simply 3055's that someone had wiped clean and badly tried to re-print. I found that out without much effort as NTE printing was clean and these looked real poor. The next was the MJ15003 which NTE sells as a NTE-60. The price was just too good. Real 15003's are 250w and pretty fantastic. Getting them for $5-6 a unit is a great deal. $2 a unit is too suspicious. I bought five and they were total fakes. But the TO-3 package is tough to hide behind. The TTO-20 is much easier to fake. I saw some MJE13009 on Ebay by the same seller for a $1 but only in lots of 50 or more...... I thought about posting the info (it was a long time back however) but I don't want to violate any rules here.......Just please read the link.

One would always expect ebay to be risky, hence why I ask here. I recently bought a tube of LM3915's which are $2-3 a piece, darned expensive! I know that coming from digikey they won't be fake, but if I spent that much money on fakes I would be pretty furious...

I bought 50 of IRFP450-s, and they were fake. It was Croatian electronic store which i later found out sells almost only fakes (and from there come small prices)
