DC-DC Boost Converter Trouble

 		The LM339N datasheet says it's a "Low voltage quad voltage comparator." Here is the datasheet: Link2

However, it may be possible that I didn't connect the +V and ground, as I somehow always manage to forget that so I'll check that. Also, just wondering, what is the difference between a comparator and an op-amp?

Edit: The comparator is hooked up fine. Is it possible that the mosfet could be to blame, as I pulled a random mosfet from a computer monitor.
