Finished the wiring today and spent many hours on testing every single function. seems to work.

tommorow i can see if this thing is getting feedback etc, cause i have no secondary yet, i can only test the primary circuit with a dummy load ( smaller secondary etc) on low voltage for measuring.

but next week i will get my wire and then i can wind the secondary coil and build the toroid. so first light for next week, hopefully ^^

I have to agree with Dr. kV, that is some incredible craftsmanship. Even my smallest projects end up looking like a mess when I'm done with them.

hrhr, thank you guys.

first test was really promising. i tested the function with a dummy secondary coil which is way to small for the low frequency of the primary circuit (around 60khz). the sec has 120khz or so, but everything seems to work fine.

The circuit starts to oscillate at around 10v on the bridge. with 25v input i was able to get around 2cm streamers from the dummy coil, so everything seems to work

cant wait to finish the secondary coil and do some real tests.

I don't know all too much about TC's, but I have to admit the inside of that case looks beautiful. The one question I had was where did you get that gigantic heatsink (only in general terms)? I've been struggling to find a large aluminum heatsink big enough to dissipate the heat, was that custom machined (if so how much did it end up costing) or was it from a distributor?

A custom made heatsink this size would have cost as much as the whole drsstc cost. no i got it from a member of my forum for around 25$, really cheap though compared to the size. this thing weights about 7kg and is around 30cm long 25cm wide and 12cm in height.

dont know where to get new heatsinks this size. mine was used and had some holes in it, but for my surprise i could use them to mount the igbts without drilling more holes.

Teslacoolguy, the question is: Is he the Dr. Spark of Germany or is Dr. Spark the Reaching of the US?

Out of curiosity, how much more fin area/forced air cooling would you need to use a steel heatsink, due to steel's relative cost and avaliablity?

Guys, its not hard to find big slabs of real aluminum heatsink, just check ebay. You can get heatsinks of that size for about 20-30 dollars usually.

BTW, i like the cooling scheme you have there, its good to cool the MMC too wink.
