Please read up on safety, especially when using mots on 240volts.. they are almost surely lethal at that level...
Don't worry about that, i have used mot's for like 3 or 4 years and i know like every safety precaution there is.... I will be fine.. i stand a far distance from it so i do not get hit by an exploding diode even.

Well it has been awhile since i have done anything coil-related but i am now about half way through with the primary. It is made out of some kind of strapping(idk the metal, i got it from some old dude for free :P) that is about 1.5 inches wide and probably around 20-24 gauge, i am guessing 24. I have not yet figured out what method i am going to use for securing the thick wire that will connect it to capacitor back/rotary sg. I also don't know how i am going to start the new roll of strapping(one roll wasn't enough, one more should do it or maybe 2). Anyway, here are the pics.

The primary supports which have been measured and marked. About the have the slots cut where it is marked.

Primary supports mounted on primary and secondary base. Two out of four are mounted.

Primary supports all mounted on primary base.

Half way completed primary.. I am really proud of how good it turned out.

I know that strapping is not all that good for primaries, but hey, the strapping was free and i have no money and i am saving it for other tesla coil related stuffs.

its not that bad, you get some pretty nice surface area. Jimmy hynes used aluminum flashing for his drsstc (worlds first :p) primary.

what do you mean its not that bad the primary is excellent andwill work just aswell as copper tubing, the only reason people use tubing is probably coz its easier to find and wind

Well, not exactly. The strapping has losses due to corona forming at the sharp points, and it get strikes more often do to the sharp point. Also it will cut the stuff outta you.

That looks like steel strapping, not a good choice.
Ken's coil uses copper strip. Your losses in heating alone with steel will be severe.

I sure hope it is aluminum then! Or at least something good... well if it is just heat i am not that worried cause i will probably not even run it much more than a minute and if it burns the wood i am not worried at all about it.. Do you think it will have resistive losses?

Just use a magnet to find whether its aluminum or steel. That way you know before you do any more work.

Well i already stopped work. I am sure that it is steel because i tried it with my nst tesla coil setup. I got better sparks with this WITHOUT tuning than i did with the copper wire primary with tuning. I thought "hey, surely this isn't steel because it works great!", and them i tuned it off and touched it. It wasn't all that hot but hot enough to cause concerns that with 2kw and 40nf and a longer than 1 minute run might burn the wood or something... I am not too worried because i already have it mostly built and all i have to do is get some copper strapping and wrap it around. But until i get copper, this will work fine for short runs....though i am surely going to have better results with copper.
