So wake up in 3 am (really having sleeping problems) and thinking what could i do not to be bored and none of DRSSTC parts in post. I was looking old ATX PSU in my trash bin, and lets do a SSTC from trash. Even didn't use a PCB

Done in 2 hours. The power comes from 12 V transformer going to 5 stage multiplier. Happy 8-10 cm sparks.

I know, stupid, ugly and useless. But i can just throw it in trash from where it come anyway,

1214644801 1153 FT0 Dsc02052

1214644801 1153 FT0 Dsc02039

1214644801 1153 FT0 Dsc02050

Edit: Project if oficcialy dead. I feed the poor little mosfet with 300 VDC mains, just from boredom. It gave nice 30 cm sparks for 20 seconds, then the whole thing blew cheesey

I must agree, this is rather intriguing. What exactly did you use from the psu's? did you somehow use the transformer driver ic? like a uc3842? Was it feedback driven, or was it just an oscillator?

lol, something similar happened to one of my coils... but instead of the whole thing being made from junk, only a few "additions" I used to try to increase the power were (had about 5" sparks, then I tried to use some scrap parts, harvested from trashed boards and things, to make a better power supply... got some longer sparks, then the cap and the power supply blew!

but very good job for something put together in two hours and made completely from junk!

It was feedback driven. You can see the antenna like a long copper wire spring.
Now i really start to regret i burned the coil, but well im not going to cry for it smile

Should have been made a contents of this. Try to make a SSTC entirely from ATX/AT PSUs and try to use less PSUs.
