Also make sure that the plastic you use is *clear*. Some 'clear' plastics (the last sheet of polycarbonate I got was this way) are actually slightly tinted, and when you try to fire polish them you end up with a black/dark blue edge. Luckily its easy to tell, just look perpendicular to a cut edge, it if looks white the plastic is actually clear, if it looks grey then its slightly tinted.

I've tried the weld-on cement and am impressed with it. Only tried the liquid form yet, not the gel... I wonder how the gel actually works, does it somehow evaporate (wouldn't that leave gap between pieces), or it actually sets into some form of acrylic too after dissolving the pieces?
Most of all I've been annoyed by cutting, I really don't know how Chris H. does all that to such precision without CNC.
I can only use hacksaw, jigsaw or hot wire and I always end with relatively poor precision, if I need precise small parts it takes lot of margin and then ages of sanding to get them right. Sanding is completely frustrating job!
I would love to work with some of those ruler saws, never had a chance though.

Sweet thick juicy plexy. Very nice, try to keep the paper on till the project in complete as will protect from scratches in the assemble process. Are you going to weld or tap the legs to the plexy?
Cheers, Ch
Thanks. I will cut a thread in plexy "leg" and use a plastic screw which i cannot buy n this country so i will use simple metal M6 screws. However i decided to ditch this plexy and use 10 mm plexy for bottom and top. the 5 mm plexy is too weak and cannot hold weight i was planning for it
Can i ask you for advice? How to drill plexy trough without those cracks on top and bottom where drill bit exit?

Hey Dr. Spark,
i know there exsists drill bits for plexy but in my country...
I bought whole bunch of titan drill bits ( i really needed them anyway) and tried practicing on plexy. It doesn't work. However i got an advice to use more than 15 000 rpm speed and it will be good. I tried with dremel and i get perfect holes. But my dremel dont support larger than 3mm bits.
Regarding the plates and supporting "legs" photoed up there my friend cut them on CNC and then "diamond board" polish them. However i didn't go to see this procedure of polishing

Just a quite note on polycarbonate (lexan, tuffak, etc). Ive used it in marx generators, and tesla coils, its a good insulator. Sure you cant glue it, but you can machine it without fear of cracking.

I never had chance to work with lexan. And here its very rare and only used by professional companies for making building windows and similar.
