Update: finished up the PCB, Started the Coil winder for my secondary, and added a bridge recitifer to my fullbridge..

Full bridge with rectifier (still havnt sanded down the copper though)

And the coil winder setup. Not the coolest. Only 46inches more to go!! >:0

That's a worryingly skinny secondary coil for a DRSSTC. I always thought they worked better with a short, fat coil, of the thinnest wire you can handle.

Well its 28 awg wire and sch40 4inch diameter pipe at about 5ft tall, will be doing a 48inch winding for around 170khz Resonant freq + a topload for around 100khz... I hope it works alright, :( gues we will see

I thought it was really skinny as well at first, it's just because your pipe is so long.

I agree with Conner, you should better redo your secondary while there's still chance.

1:12 is a way too large ratio for probably any tesla coil I can think of.

It is simply that your secondary will always look silly against your spark length, it will have stability problems with large topload on top and most importantly you might use up like 10x more copper than you really need!

DRSSTC does not dissipate significant amounts of heat through the secondary and thus fine wire can be used to reduce secondary size and total amount of copper used.

For a fullbridge of 40N60 IGBT's, you can also look around Steve Ward's coils.

His DRSSTC 1 had final resonant frequency of 60kHz, and secondary that seemed to use 32..34AWG wire. , 6.5*22 inches IIRC.

I myself made a resonator with f0 of about 100kHz using 0.2mm wire (awg 32), on 110*400mm PVC pipe, and large toroid about 150*400mm.

I would have tried that had i not already gotten over 5inches of winding done... I think I can make this work, though I know its not in my best interest to ignore guidance by fellow 4hv'ers, It is still a learning process and if it ends up not working correctly.. well that will be my fault and I have learned my lesson. Please keep contributing comments/concerns though, I will do what i can to use them!

You know, I read the 5ft, but I thought you were saying that you would cut the excess off later.
1:12 is not a good look. Why don't you just do about 1200 turns on that one and start another
secondary with finer wire?
