In the end i scrapped my primary made from 3" wide aluminum strip because it was too hard to keep it from arcing to the secondary with the extremely sharp edges of the primary. Having round copper tubing instead really does make a good difference.
Ok thanks, i will stick to copper pipe. Oh yea and how much copper pipe would it take for a primary that a 6 inch secondary will fit into and have enough space in between to withstand more than 8kv?
Edit, teslacoolguy already told me how much copper pipe it will take.

The first ever DRSSTC used it, and no, you don't have to cut it :p
According to FEMM, you still get current bunching at the top and bottom, but it was still supposed to be (IIRC) 60mohm instead of 250mohm with my 1/4" copper tube, which was really sucking power.
