OK then. By any chance does anyone know how the diode setup works in this diagram?

because it confuses the heck out of me. I mean, I pretty much know what it does, but I don't know HOW it does it.

Well how do you mean how it does it. It just takes the ac and turns it into dc.

It's basic electronics, you should get some books from the library to begin with.
It is a full wave rectifier and C1 is the filter cap that should take out the rest of the ripple.

Good call, I always forget about HvWiki, but seeing Mates write up on HV diodes and caps in there

anyone know where i can get a good pre-spun secondary coil for this project that is about 1 inch in diameter and has about 500 turns?
