hmm, is there any way to get to 4hv without going to 4hv.org? I always though that the ip address/domain name were interchangeable...

In any case, "setup is 28% done copying files" mistrust
ok, even with a fresh install (only windows/network drivers installed) it is slow. With or without the modifications to the hosts file.

I just can't figure it out, I know it is not a problem with my network (my desktop gets it fast), and I know that there is no problems with the installation... Why doesn't it work mistrust

Oh well, nothing remote desktop cant fix cheesey Seems kind of stupid logging in remotely to a computer sitting 7' from me (heck, there is a monitor attached to it further than that), but you gotta do what you gotta do...

Ever since this new board was open I've found it awfully slow
using MS Internet Explorer 6.

Mozilla Firefox ver 1.5.0.1 doesn't give this problem

The delay seems to be a wait whilst the whole thread is loaded,
IE waits for the whole thread
Firefox displays immediately.

Is there an IE setting for this?

If not 4hv.org should check or all IE users will suffer.

I've seen a lot of complaints of slow loading. The new forum software does seem a little more sluggish than the old system. I personally don't see the long freezes though, but maybe thats because I avoid IE like the plague.

I remember the old 4hv had a problem with off-site avatars and images. If these were on a server that was down, it would delay the loading of the whole thread until the request for the image timed out.

I use firefox. I've never had any problems. Actually it is lightning fast, faster than the old board ever was. Most likely IE is broken.

w00t, installing all of the microsoft updates fixed it smile Even without the modicitation to the 'hosts' file it is good.

Perhapse all of you guys could try windows update? I still don't think that it is realted to ie though, as both firefox and ie were slow on my laptop (and for a while on my desktop).

Hmm... I did notice that it took a bit longer and froze up a few seconds at work with XP SP1 and IE... at home I have still not had any probs w/ 2000 & Firefox. But my connection at home is much faster than work so it might just be that. I'll have to try my old linux webserver box and see if theres any lag there...

Its really slow here. I use firefox all the time I dont use IE. Today it has been ages to load pages and threads.

Since i started using firefox, i get virtually zero delay - instant loading of all pages. Seems my IE was really screwing things up . . . figures.
