I think I'm just gonna go get another transformer, this one was only ten bucks so I can walk away easily.

Well if you want i can send you a neon sign transformer for around $30(more or less depending on where you live). It is 6kv at 30ma which is good for around 2foot arcs. It works great and the only thing wrong with it is one of the nuts on the input screws is cross threaded. It will not screw in or out. But all you would have to do is solder a cord onto it. PM me if you want to buy or want to know anything else. And if you'd like, i could put a power cord on it for you.
