Echo! Echo!
I have to agree with Conner, when companies find out they are getting scammed by hobbyists they usually put an end to their sample requests unless you can prove that you are going to be making a deal with them. At least give them some "reason" why they didn't work out for you.

I sent an email to [dont think i should post company] and told them im doing a science fair project on lorentz force and railguns (ireally am, no scam) and asked if they could donate a SCR. I recieved a 5500Amp surge, 200 continuose, 1.2kv SCR free of charge (no shipping either).
Im currently trying to find someone to donate caps, but only company that replied decided that they didnt want to be liable incase i kill my self or kill someone with the railgun ;(

well if they had 42 before you sampled them and now they have 2 i would guess that they actually did send all 40 and if they do consider yourself lucky and also remember guys if we all want the sample thing to be open for us when we need it we cannot abuse it so i hope people understand and dont go trying to sample alot of capacitors and dont EVER double sample the same product. If prople follow these guidelines i am pretty sure that we can keep the sampeing thing open for all of us.

Well hey, i never new anything about this. I heard i could sample this product for free so i did. But it is not like i did this just for the free caps. If they work out for me i will buy more whenever i need them. Ok. so maybe i am not a company that would like to see if this cap will work for my application, but i do believe i deserve to try the capacitors as much as any company does, because if these are as worthy as they are said to be, i will be a lifetime costumer. I now regret posting this thread, because now people think i am a scammer. But if i didn't do this, i probably would never find out if they were good and that would be one less costumer. I don't really care if anyone thinks i am scamming, because at least i know i am not. And i have had such a hard time getting the stuff for this coil, all the weekends that have gone to waste for mowing for the money, i sorta think i deserve them anyway.

Hey i am not at all saying that you are scamming and in fact i sampled 30 cde942c16p33k caps but i have a couple of out of state friends so i sampled 10 to each of their address and then they shipped them to me and now i have 30 of those free caps worth somewere around 100 bucks. And the only reason i did this is because i needed the caps asap and in fact i am going to order 50 more from richardsons electronics and when ever they come they come so really i am in the same situation as you arcstarter so dont feel bad and if you ever need any help with anything just ask me and i probably will know what to do.

Sorry, I never meant to imply that you guys are deliberately scamming. I'm talking about the power of the internet here.
If a couple of hobbyists call up X corporation and ask nicely, sure, they might get free samples. They know fine well that you're not a professional, but they assume there's a fair chance you'll become one when you grow up, remember how nice X Corp were, and spec their parts. (It worked for me and Analog Devices.)
But if Joe Hobbyist then posts on a public forum that gets read by hundreds of people daily: "Hey X Corp. give away caps 4 free. heres their phone number lol" then X Corp are going to start getting dozens, maybe hundreds of sample requests for that part. And probably some downright scary phone calls too, from what I know of the average HV hobbyist.
They'll probably have no option but to ignore them, as it would cost them too much to fulfil them all. And it'll leave a bad taste in their mouths as regards sampling to hobbyists in the future. Instead of a few people getting some free samples, lots of people will get none, and everyone loses out.

ya, i contacted a company, talked to them, and they provided a 1200v 200A SCR for free (5500A surge). They said they get all kinds of requests, and they try to give everyone what they want.

Since this thread should have another moral voice to make HV'ers seem responsible, sampling is ok for samples. But when you know exactly what the component does, and know you need a large amount of them sampling is outright abuse of the company's trust. Fine for one off deals like an odd and exotic part, but not for stocking up your parts bin.
